We were also lucky enough to do an interview with Amy! She is such an amazing person, and we are very grateful to her for giving us this opportunity!

Interview with Amy Cox

Hi Amy, thanks so much for taking the time to do this interview with us! We are very excited for the upcoming re-release of your book CHANGING FATE, and you must be too!

Amy: I am SO excited!  Thank you so much for having me.  I had released Changing Fate on my own in May 2013 through Kindle Publishing; but now that I signed with Bright Wood Press it is being rereleased after being re-edited, and polished up.  I think that I am even more excited and nervous the second time around.  My fingers will be crossed for sure.

Was writing something you always knew you wanted to do, or did that come at a later time in life?

Amy: I have wanted to be a writer as long as I can remember.  I entered contests in school and after I married, I still wrote, though I never dreamed that I would be published and that people would read what I wrote.  Let alone like it!  Now I am being personally invited to signings where some of my all time favorite authors are attending.  It is beyond unreal to me.

What was the one thing that inspired you to begin writing?

Amy: My grandmother, who always supported me and pushed me to never forget what I wanted to do in life.  I let things get in the way.  Life and fear, but she always made sure I didn’t forget what I wanted.

When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Amy: I always wanted to be a writer.  I always had a pen and paper in hand growing up.  I wouldn’t let anyone read what I wrote and some not even when it was finished.  None of my family or long time friends were surprised when I said that I had written a book and was publishing.  They seemed kind of shocked that I took so long to go for it.

How did you come up with the idea for the plot of Changing Fate?

Amy: Changing Fate had some pieces of reality in it for me.  It started there in planning and took a completely different turn and went in a direction I never expected.  The emotional turmoil and plot threw me for a loop and never did I expect it to go like it did or spin into another book.

How long did it take you to write Changing Fate?

Amy: It really poured out of me, almost like I was struggling to keep up with it at times.  From start to finish it took around six weeks.  I was very grateful because it was an emotional rollercoaster that I rode to the fullest.  I fell in love with the characters.  Not just the main ones, Ray and Rachel, but the secondary characters took on lives of their own and have a following already.

If Changing Fate was made into a movie, who would be your ideal cast?

Amy: This is hard because for one, that is my wildest dreams come true!  Two, I love the idea of no names being casted for these things.  Ray would have to be Channing Tatum-ish, because the looks fit, and Ray is around that age and build and there is that sweet side but also that strong alpha.  His cousin Zack, really makes me think of a green eyed, tattooed version of Ian Somerhalder.  Zack waggles his brows, oozes confidence and sexuality, he has this smirk that ruins you.  The ladies Rachel, well she starts out pretty guarded and has to grow into her own but I can possibly see Alexis Bledel.  Kate now she is feisty and flirty.  She has moments where she is weak and broken but with her and Rachel looking a lot alike I really think that Nina Debrov would rock Kate to full potential.

Which authors writing do you particularly admire most and why?

Amy: I admire any and all writers who put everything they have into what they do.  There are so many that I have spoken to on Facebook and it blows me away.  The author community truly is full of great people.  I love Brooke Cumberland for her WTF moments because the girl rocks it!  Tara Sivec, for her ability to make me laugh so hard when I need it!  Chelsea Camaron for making me swoon with every book!  There are so many others and everyone I have spoken to are so humble and amazing.

Who are some of your main influences in your writing?

Amy: Life is my inspiration.  I really don’t want to try to be like any other author.  I admire and adore them and the characters they create but I really just want to pour myself into my story and hope that the readers love it and the characters as much as I do.  I want what I write to be real enough that you feel it, as if you are living it.

What is the one book you could read over and over again without growing tired of it?

Amy: Seductions and snacks By Tara Sivec.  It is my go to when I need a mood change.  The fact that it is real and raw…not to mention steamy and laugh your butt off hilarious!  I have never laughed so hard.  I truly quote that book a lot!

What do you look for in a book boyfriend?

Amy: Who doesn’t love the hot bod?  I go beyond that though…  I love the eyes.  Color doesn’t matter, but the descriptive emotions in his eyes.  That gets my swoon on.  I love the sweet, but I love the alpha to.  Banter is a must…and laughter.  I demand a quick wit and a sense of humor in my book men.

Do you prefer a HOT, sexy bad boy… or a sweet and romantic good guy when reading a romance novel?

Amy: Depends on my mood really, I love both equally.  Though there is something to be said for the man that can pull off both.

If you get “writers block” what do you do to help yourself break free from it?

Amy: I plug in my IPOD and hit the track or drive.  Music clears my head.  I get the best ideas blaring my playlists.  I have a very eclectic taste and my IPOD literally has a little of everything on it.  Over 400 songs and growing daily, it is almost as bad as my kindle book shelf.

If you could give just one piece of advise for aspiring authors, what would it be?

Amy: Be Proud!  You wrote something and that is huge!  I mean some people can’t even put together a Facebook status and here you wrote a book?  It is a big deal.  Confidence is important, you need it just as much as you need humility.

What can we look forward to next from you?

Amy: A lot hopefully.  I am currently finishing Changing Fate’s sequel.  Thankful, which is Zack and Kate’s story continuing on.  Also I have another work in progress which is unnamed.  It is about a married couple with two children.  They have been married ten years and though there is heat there, so much isn’t there anymore.  It’s funny, emotional, and has lots of heat…but most importantly it is real.  Hopefully, readers can relate to it.  Thankful will be out hopefully in October or November.  The other I am shooting for early spring 2014 or sooner.  I have signings booked in 2014 and I couldn’t be more excited about them.
